    led bulb benefits

When most people think of October, they think of Halloween. But in the electrical business, we have another holiday to celebrate: National LED Day on October 7!

This might seem like a goofy holiday, but it serves as an excellent conversation starter to raise awareness about the financial and environmental benefits of switching to LED (light emitting diode) bulbs. LEDs are constructed differently from old school incandescent bulbs. Their differences make them longer lasting and better for the environment. Here are five benefits of LED bulbs from our team at Buzz Electrical to raise awareness on National LED Day.

    1. Longevity

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), LEDs last 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs. Since LED bulbs do not contain a filament, they don’t go out suddenly like their incandescent counterparts. LEDs slowly dim over time until they need to be replaced. They can last several years without ever needing a replacement, which means you save money in the long run.

    2. Efficiency

In addition to lasting longer, LEDs use considerably less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. According to the EPA, all residential LED products use at least 75% less energy. Since they consume less energy, LEDs benefit the environment and lower your monthly electricity bills. If you want to compare and purchase bulbs based on the amount of energy they use and their total cost per year, look for the Energy Star logo and label.

    3. Versatility

Saving money and saving the planet with LED bulbs does not mean you have to sacrifice style. LEDs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes for any light fixture. They also come in a huge range of colors, which makes them ideal for holiday lighting displays.

    4. Durability

LEDs are not crafted from the thin, flimsy glass exteriors and filament conductors of the past. They are made from tiny microchips and sturdy epoxy enclosures, which make them less susceptible to damage from harsh weather, vibrations, and even impact. They also thrive in colder temperatures and operate at peak efficiency. These factors are beneficial for lights that are typically exposed to colder temps and unpredictable weather: holiday lights, refrigerator lights, and outdoor signage.

    5. Environmental Responsibility

Since LEDs are energy efficient while in use, they benefit the environment by consuming less fossil fuels. But they are also safer for the environment after they have been discarded. LED bulbs do not contain mercury like other types of technology, so they will not leak poisonous material into the land after they are thrown away. LEDs help to make us all more environmentally responsible.
