    organizing old electronics

Have you been binge watching Marie Kondo’s new Netflix show as she tidies up houses from coast to coast? Watching so many families organize their spaces has us brainstorming new ways to tidy up ourselves.

Old electronics are one of the biggest offenders when it comes to clutter. Although some of your old technology can be donated or recycled, you might want to hang on to some of it a little bit longer.

At Buzz Electrical, we are always looking for new ways to make our customers’ lives better. Here is our guide to organizing old electronics and sparking joy along the way.

    Donate Unused Tech

Sorting through your technology will allow you to decide what you really need and prioritize your available space. If you have ancient computer monitors, VCRs, CDs, tapes, or other obsolete tech gathering dust in a closet, consider donating or recycling them. If you want to keep old items that still “spark joy” for you, this will help you determine the best use of your space for both nostalgia and practicality.

Make sure you never throw electronics out with the trash. Many of your worn out devices contain chemicals that can leak out and harm the environment, so they are not safe for landfills.

    Make an Inventory

When you determine which electronics you are keeping and which ones you aren’t, it can be helpful to make a list of what you have. Make an inventory of your appliances, cords, games, movies, accessories, and any miscellaneous items. Then make a note about where you are storing each one. Keep the inventory on your primary computer and keep a paper copy in your desk.

    Set Up Charging Stations

One of the simplest ways to make sure each of your electronics has a home is to invest in charging docks for multiple devices. This will help you keep track of your cords and leave desks and couches less cluttered with items while they aren’t in use.

    Store Cords to Prevent Tangling

Don’t leave your cords in a tangled heap hidden inside a drawer. Separate all of your spare cords. Wrap each cord and use a binder clip or clothespin to hold it in place. Set empty toilet paper rolls upright in a small storage basket and slip individual cords inside each one. This will prevent cords from tangling and make it easy for you to find what you need with one glance.

We hope these tips made organizing old electronics easier.
